Mr Zhai, without the assistance of a barrister, successfully applied for and was granted Local Court Bail for a young client in his 20s with no criminal history who was charged with more than 10 charges of sexual assault and filming the assaults without consent.

Although it appeared to be a strong police case, we successfully persuaded the court that there was arguable case that the sex was consensual.

To reduce the risk of flight and endangering the alleged victim, we arranged for the client to be bailed interstate and for a family member to fly down and agree to forfeit $100,000 to secure his release and pick him up from jail.
